Frequently Asked Questions
Appearance Protection FAQs
Can I take my vehicle to a carwash after the protection is applied?
It’s best to wash by hand with any car wash solution. However, if you are going to use a car wash, we recommend a touchless car wash.
How should I maintain my vehicle’s paint after the protection is applied?
There is a 24-hour cure time after the application. Please do not wash or wax your vehicle in this window.
Wash your vehicle as you normally would. The sealant does not require a rigid schedule.
You may wax your vehicle as often as you like without negatively affecting your Warranty if you use a high-grade Carnauba Wax product that is non-abrasive. Avoid using any wax that contains abrasives (cleaner waxes) which could damage the paint sealant. You may use either a liquid or paste Carnauba Wax product.
Waxing will give your paint additional luster; however, it does not protect your paint like the sealants do.
What would you recommend for cleaning off spots on my vehicle’s paint such as tree sap and bird droppings?
If it doesn’t come off after you wash your vehicle, you may use warm water and a mild soap. Make a 50/50 solution of water and the mild soap to loosen the tree sap/bird droppings.
How do I remove Road Paint Overspray if it happens to get on my vehicle?
A light solvent such as a window cleaner (alcohol based) would remove it. You might possibly need to use a clay bar or clay towel as well.
Can the CalTex appearance protection product be applied to satin or matte paint finishes?
No, the product should not be applied to these types of finishes.
Is the CalTex appearance protection product applied in every area in the interior of a vehicle?
The headliner or visors will not be treated because the sealant could compromise the adhesive that is used in those areas.
For safety precautions, the gear shift, seatbelts, steering wheel, pedals, or any other mechanical areas are not treated.
How do I maintain my vehicle’s seats now that they are treated?
You may vacuum and clean your interior as you normally would. If a stain occurs on fabric, carpet or vinyl/leather surfaces, simply try a wet cloth and mild soap to attempt to remove the stain.
I thought the CalTex appearance protection product was supposed to cause liquid to bead up to prevent stains from occurring?
Interior: The product is a stain protection that encapsulates the fibers making them resistant to permanent stains. This means that the spill may soak into the fabric. However, our product is designed to prevent the spill from becoming permanently stained.
Exterior: Just because the water does not “bead” as well over time, does not mean the protection is gone. Over time the hydrophobic effect (water repellency) will diminish and not create the original beading effect. Do not be concerned, the product is still intact.
Is the sealant safe for my family and I?
CalTex’s sealants are all water based and have less than 1% VOCs.
Are there any temperature restrictions for application?
There are no temperature restrictions for application, however a shaded area is recommended.
How long does it take for the sealant to cure?
It can’t be washed with soap and water for 24 hours after the application.
How can I reorder the bottles in the customer care kit that I received at the time of purchase?
Please email orders@caltexus.com with your request
